Perhaps Save the Wand for Later?!

Comparison:

‘It wasn’t a fairy godmother waving a magic wand.’

A campaign aide for Kamala Harris noting the importance of a list of Democratic “allies, power brokers, and potential delegates“ assembled during Harris‘ work across the country as Vice President. The list was then used to contact key people upon Joe Biden's retiring from the contest--apparently using more blood, sweat, and tears than fairy dust. Note that this comparison uses a negation (wasn't) of a well-known cultural character to emphasize the candidate's foresight and work ethic. (See context below for more.)

Context:

The Vice President—clad in a Howard University sweatshirt, munching pizza with anchovies—spent the next 10 hours on the phone dialing delegates and wrangling endorsements. A day later, the nomination was all but hers. Even though other presidential hopefuls had ties to swing states or big donors, ‘the list was the thing that we had that they didn’t,’ says a top aide. ‘It wasn’t a fairy godmother waving a magic wand.’
