What to make of spherical snow

Updated: Sep 5, 2023

Comparison:

My writing colleague, Amy Lemley and I call this, ‘packing a tighter snowball.’

Connie Glover and Amy Lemley reflect through a metaphor about the value of simple, straightforward writing. This comparison helps greatly in recognizing the benefit and hazard of a compelling comparison. If a tightly packed snowball sounds like power, force, and precision, you may hear it as a positive concept. If perchance you widen your metaphoric frame of interpretation and think about being on the receiving end of such a snowball, the tighter snowball may seem unwelcome. Audience perception, as with many occasions in the use of language, decides the meaning construction of the metaphor.

Context:

[This comparison comes from a comment to a Matt Sabo LinkedIn post by Connie Glover who noted her awareness of, and agreement with, Sabo's call for simple, conversational writing.]
