Comparison:
. . . how did you come here, on foot, on a horse or in a car? The car cuts time off your journey. So does a robot. An algorithm does what a caliper used to do.
Marble sculptor artist Giacomo Massari, who is an innovative pioneer in use of robots to create marble art, argues using an analogical form that we'd be foolish to deny use of robots or machines in marble sculpting when we readily use machines and tech in other parts of our lives. Do you agree with his argument? With his analogy? Why?
Context:
When I asked [Giacomo] Massari, whether he thought Michelangelo, who like other great sculptors then and now relied on apprentices to create his masterpieces, would have used robot technology had it been available to him, Massari seem to bridle. ‘Of course, he would use robots—100 percent! I tell people who question what we do: how did you come here, on foot, on a horse or in a car? The car cuts time off your journey. So does a robot. An algorithm does what a caliper used to do. I have time to contemplate a beautiful sunset because a machine does all the hard stuff.’
